PROJECT
OVERVIEW
This transformational project was designed to create a home that reflects my clients passion for gardening and their desire for a comfortable indoor-outdoor living space.
The Mayflower project showcases the seamless integration of the client's lifestyle with the design of their home, providing a beautiful setting for enjoying a sunny evening in the garden with a cold glass of wine, while still being connected to the comforts of indoor entertainment.
The main aim for Robin & Elaine was a design that focused on bringing their garden into their home, while also catering to their love of cooking. The project was a lot of fun to work on,; finding creative ways to integrate the garden into the design.
By creating a large open plan living area, and utilising their existing space, we really got the most out of their home.
Their kitchen was moved into the new extension with their new open plan living area also being moved forward into their new extension - this allowed them to get maximum use out their garden and new extension as this would be where they spend the majority of their time.
We decided to make good use of the existing living room by turning it into a dining room. This way, when they entertain, they still get the full benefits of their new floor space.
The next challenge was to work out a way of bringing their garden into their new extension. Most projects I see just throw a large bi-fold or sliding door for example on and call it a day. I wanted to go a step further and ACTUALLY bring their garden into their home. To achieve this, I designed an inverted folding door which steps into their extension. My client and I both absolutely loved this and so does everyone who visits their home. It's such a unique feature and is a big talking point among those who visit.
Let there be light! An important part of their brief was to bring as much light into their new home as possible. We didn't want to create this wonderful extension only for it to be dark and dingy. We achieved this by adding a central orangery skylight over the living room and a series of skylights across the new kitchen. Not only do the skylights bring in plenty of natural light, they are also beautiful features in their own right.
I am so glad they love their finished home as much as I do. It was a pleasure working on this project from start to finish.
